Mother of God of Tikhvin - 17½" x 14½"  
 
The icon is a replica of the effigy of the Tikhvin Mother of God, miraculous icon of the Virgin - which is said to have traveled miraculously from Constantinople to the river Tikhvinka at the end of the 14th century. The icon reproduces the Byzantine style of the Hodegetria. The Virgin is pointing at Jesus with her right hand, as she looks at the spectator. The Child is blessing his mother and in his other hand he is holding the scroll of Holy Scriptures.
 
This is a mounted icon with raised borders. The background and frame are made with gold leaf. Mounted icons are created from quality reproductions of ancient icons and are printed on museum quality art paper with high quality pigment-based inks. The reproductions are mounted on birch veneered plywood and varnished for protection.
